The Raga Fellowship Foundation warmly invites you to a day of deep melody and rhythmic mastery at the 4th Annual Dr Kalyan Mukherjea Memorial Concert. Set against the historic backdrop of Mahajati Sadan in Kolkata, this year’s festival continues its tradition as an eminent “marathon” celebration, granting a deep immersion in the soul of Hindustani classical music. From the detailed strokes of the Sarod to the soulful depths of the Agra Gharana, we invite you to lose yourself in an afternoon and evening of pure, unhurried artistry.
This concert is held in loving memory of Dr Kalyan Mukherjea, a man whose life proved a rare confluence of intellectual brilliance and musical passion. A world-renowned mathematician and a dedicated scholar of the Senia Shahjahanpur Gharana, Dr Mukherjea was more than a mere listener; he was a custodian of the art form. His extensive understanding of Raga-Vidya and his devotion to supporting the next generation of artists inspired the birth of this foundation. Through this memorial, we endeavour to uphold his vision of keeping the traditional “Baithak” spirit vibrant within a grander stage.
Our 4th edition features a carefully chosen selection of maestros who represent the peak of contemporary classical music:
- Sri Deepsankar Bhattacharjee: Bringing the Sitar to life with his original yet rooted approach.
- Vidushi Shashwati Mandal: A master of the subtle delicacies of Khayal and the rare, rhythmic details of Tappa.
- Pt. Biswajit Roy Chowdhury: A titan of the Sarod, known for his technical mastery and profound emotion.
- Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan: Carrying forward the powerful, resonant legacy of the Agra Gharana.
They will be joined by a cohort of distinguished accompanists, assuring that every beat and every note echoes with the excellence Dr Mukherjea so dearly valued.
