Mahajati Sadan

Mahajati Sadan is a majestic cultural complex and premier auditorium on Chittaranjan Avenue in the heart of North Kolkata. The primary theatre is a grand, air-conditioned space with 1,309 seats, making it one of the largest and most sought-after venues for large-scale Hindustani classical music festivals and professional theatrical productions. The building's architecture blends solemnity and national pride, with wide corridors and a monumental facade that commands attention. 

Beyond the main stage, the venue features a well-equipped seminar hall seating 160 for intimate gatherings and academic discussions. The interior walls are adorned with portraits of India’s most illustrious freedom fighters, while a specialised library and permanent photo gallery provide a scholarly environment for visitors interested in social sciences and political history. Managed by the Government of West Bengal, the venue has modern acoustics and lighting, ensuring it remains a central pillar of Kolkata’s intellectual and artistic life.
