As part of Kala Festival 2026, Reading Raga Resonance: Bow, Beat, and Breath brings together two distinguished artists of the Indian classical tradition for a special afternoon concert at The Great Hall, Reading.

The performance features Satwinder Pal Singh (Sarangi) and Ustad Shahbaz Hussain (Tabla) in a musical dialogue exploring the deep relationship between melody and rhythm. Rather than a conventional accompaniment format, the recital is designed as an artistic exchange where both instruments share equal prominence.

The first half of the programme will focus on the expressive and vocal-like character of the Sarangi, accompanied by tabla. The second half will shift the spotlight to a tabla solo presentation, supported by the melodic textures of the Sarangi. Together, the artists will showcase improvisation, virtuosity, and the spontaneous creativity that lies at the heart of Indian classical music.
