About Barbican Centre
The Barbican Centre is one of London's major homes for the arts. Located within the Barbican Estate, it hosts a broad program of activities, including music concerts, theatre productions, film screenings, and exhibitions, offering audiences many ways to experience the arts. The building also includes a public library, a conservatory filled with plants, and several dining options.
The Barbican is home to the London Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, which often perform there. The Royal Shakespeare Company also presents some of its theatre productions at the venue.
The Centre is owned and supported by the City of London Corporation and first opened to the public in 1982. Designed in the bold, modern style known as Brutalism, it stands today as one of the largest and most important performing arts centres in Europe.
