Biography

Ishaan Ghosh is a tabla player of the Farrukhabad Gharana, representing a living lineage of Indian classical music. He is the son and disciple of Pandit Nayan Ghosh and comes from a family deeply rooted in music. He is the grandson of the legendary tabla maestroPadmabhushan Pandit Nikhil Ghosh, and the grandnephew of the pioneering flautist, Pandit Pannalal Ghosh. From an early age, music became his natural language, and he presented his first tabla solo recital when he was still a child.

Under the guidance of his father, Ishaan developed a style that combines clarity, strength, and refined rhythm. His solo performances are marked by rich patterns and complex rhythmic ideas, while his accompaniment reflects sensitivity and deep musical understanding. He has carved a strong identity in both solo tabla and accompaniment, earning respect from musicians and listeners alike.

Ishaan has performed with many of the leading figures in Indian classical music, including Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, Ustad Aashish Khan, Ustad Nishat Khan, Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Dr. N. Rajam, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Rahul Deshpande, Rakesh Chaurasia, and Purbayan Chatterjee, among others. These experiences have shaped his growth and deepened his musical maturity.

He is also the conceptual force behind ARAJ, a collaborative ensemble of gifted young classical musicians, created to present Indian classical music in a fresh and collective format. The group brings together artists on sitar, flute, sarangi, vocals, and tabla under the musical mentorship of Pandit Nayan Ghosh.

While firmly rooted in tradition, Ishaan continues to explore new musical paths. He collaborates with artists from other cultures and genres, including jazz and world music performers from Europe and Asia. He is also invited to speak on youth platforms such as TEDx, where he shares his journey and vision for Indian classical music.

Since childhood, he has performed widely across India and abroad, touring the USA, UK, and Europe. His international presence includes special cultural events and social projects, where he has represented Indian classical music with pride. Through performance, dialogue, and innovation, Ishaan Ghosh continues to build a bridge between tradition and the future, inspiring young audiences across the world.
