Rakesh Chaurasia

Rakesh Chaurasia is one of India's leading bansuri exponents, widely recognised for upholding and expanding the revered Chaurasia tradition. He began his musical journey at a young age, and soon he emerged as a unique child prodigy on the Indian bamboo flute. He is the nephew and foremost disciple of flute legend Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. 

With a style shaped by rigorous training in Swar (melody) and tala (rhythm), Rakesh brings together clarity, emotional depth, technical finesse, and a serene tonal quality. His expressive approach allows the bansuri to convey a rich spectrum of moods and musical ideas. He is equally admired for his command of Indian classical music and his versatility in collaborative and contemporary projects. 

Over the years, he has performed extensively across the world, including Japan, Australia, Europe, South Africa, and the United States, appearing at major venues, on international tours, and at prestigious festivals, such as the Festival of Saint-Denis in Paris and the Leicester International Music Festival in the UK. 

Alongside his concert career, Rakesh is a highly respected recording artist and has collaborated with many leading figures in the Indian film and music industry. He was invited to conclude the 24-hour BBC Radio live broadcast celebrating the Queen's Silver Jubilee.
