Biography

Ojas Adhiya represents a generation of Indian classical musicians who combine a deep grounding in tradition with a broad range of musical interests. Born in a small village in Maharashtra, he had an affinity for the tabla recognised before he began formal schooling. His earliest public performances earned him entry into the Limca Book of Records as India’s youngest tabla artist, a milestone that quickly put him on the national stage. When the family moved to Mumbai, his training intensified under the guidance of Shri Mridangraj, a respected guru of the Ajrada gharana, known for its clarity of tone and intricate rhythmic vocabulary.

As a student, Adhiya remained curious about every form of rhythm he encountered. He has performed and experimented with jazz ensembles, ghazal repertoire, and elements of Carnatic percussion, encouraging younger musicians to listen widely. This openness informs his collaborations with leading Hindustani artists in major festivals and concerts, including a notable appearance with Ustad Shahid Parvez at the Darbar Festival in 2018.

His style is marked by energetic improvisation supported by a disciplined command of tala, reflecting influences from senior maestros including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Pandit Kumar Bose, and Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. With a growing international presence and a developing solo career, Adhiya is carving out a distinctive role within modern tabla performance while remaining connected to the lineage that shaped him.
