Shahid Parvez

Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is internationally respected for his mastery of the sitar and his role in carrying forward the legacy of the Etawah gharana. His ancestors—including Imdad Khan, Enayat Khan, Wahid Khan, and Ustad Vilayat Khan—played a defining role in shaping the modern sitar tradition. Building on this heritage, his music reflects deep technical rigor and a refined sense of melodic improvisation. His approach emphasizes Gayaki Ang, a stylistic discipline that adapts vocal nuances such as meend, gamaka, and lyrical flow into string performance, creating an intimate yet powerful sound world.

Over the years, he has appeared at many of the world’s most respected venues and festivals across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia. His concerts are valued for their clarity of raga presentation, rhythmic precision, and spontaneous artistry—elements supported by his long training in tabla as well as sitar.

Alongside his performance career, he has contributed to training the next generation of musicians, mentoring students such as Shakir Khan and Sameep Kulkarni. His recordings, broadcast appearances, and collaborations with leading percussionists highlight a continuing evolution in his art.
