Aadyam Handwoven is set to present Shinjini Kulkarni at the Bebaak Stage during the Sufi Heritage Festival. Renowned for her exceptional skills in Kathak, Shinjini is part of the esteemed ninth generation of the Kalka–Bindadin lineage. Her artistic journey began at just five years old under the tutelage of her grandfather, the iconic Kathak maestro Pt. Birju Maharaj, and she is also a Ganda Bandh Shagird of Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaj. During the festival, Shinjini will showcase a contemporary Kathak composition that narrates the enchanting tale of Jodha–Akbar. This performance beautifully merges elements from both the Jaipur and Banaras gharanas, while also offering a Sufi interpretation of the aesthetics of the Mughal court. Through her dance, she aims to create a dialogue that bridges traditional and contemporary forms of expression. Attendees can anticipate a mesmerizing experience that intertwines movement, music, and emotion, featuring captivating soundscapes enriched by the melodies of the flute and the rhythms of the Persian duff. This event promises to be a thoughtful exploration of bhav and thirak, celebrating the depth and beauty of Kathak within a unique cultural context.
