NCPA HSBC Bandish – Day 1 is presented by the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) with the support of HSBC India at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, Mumbai. The opening evening of the three-day festival focuses on the rich compositional heritage of Hindustani classical music through performances by leading vocalists Jayateerth Mevundi and Padma Talwalkar.

Jayateerth Mevundi, a leading exponent of the Kirana gharana, presents a recital comprising bada khayal, chhota khayal and tarana. His programme features compositions by eminent composer-musicians Na'mat Khan (Sadarang), Ramashreya Jha (Ramrang) and Ustad Abdul Karim Khan. He is accompanied by Niranjan Lele on harmonium and Mandar Puranik on tabla.

Senior vocalist and guru Padma Talwalkar presents bada khayal and chhota khayal compositions representing the Jaipur and Gwalior traditions. Her recital includes works by Sadarang and Jagannathbua Purohit (Gunidas), with accompaniment by Suyog Kundalkar on harmonium and Tejas Majgaonkar on tabla.

Day 1 of NCPA HSBC Bandish highlights the enduring legacy of India's great composer-musicians through traditional khayal performance, bringing together distinguished vocalists and accompanists in a programme dedicated to the foundations of Hindustani classical music.
