The opening evening of the three-day festival focuses on the rich compositional heritage of Hindustani classical music through performances by leading vocalists Jayateerth Mevundi and Padma Talwalkar.
Jayateerth Mevundi, a leading exponent of the Kirana gharana, presents a recital comprising bada khayal, chhota khayal and tarana. His programme features compositions by eminent composer-musicians Na'mat Khan (Sadarang), Ramashreya Jha (Ramrang) and Ustad Abdul Karim Khan. He is accompanied by Niranjan Lele on harmonium and Mandar Puranik on tabla.
