Shakir Khan

Shakir Khan is a sitar artist of the Etawah Gharana and the son and disciple of Padma Shri Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. He belongs to a distinguished musical lineage that includes his grandfather Ustad Aziz Khan, his great-grandfather Ustad Wahid Khan, and his grand-uncle Ustad Vilayat Khan. This lineage represents an unbroken tradition devoted to the sitar and surbahar.

Shakir gave his first public performance at the age of eleven. His training has been shaped by continuous study and daily riyaaz under his father’s guidance. Over the years, he has performed at leading music festivals in India, including the Dover Lane Music Conference in Kolkata, Sawai Gandharva Festival in Pune, Saptak Music Festival in Ahmedabad, Tansen Music Festival in Gwalior, Bombay Festival in Mumbai, and Shankarlal Music Festival in Delhi.

Internationally, he has presented Etawah Gharana music in the United States, Canada, and Europe, including a performance at the Woodstock Festival in Poland. He received the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2023, along with awards such as the Guruvarya B. S. Upadhyay Memorial Award, the Shri Ram Murti Pratibha Alankaran, and the Vidyasagar Award.

Shakir Khan is also a recipient of a Government of India merit scholarship and has won first prize at the All India Radio Music Competition. He has accompanied his father in several concerts, presenting father-son duets. He is associated with international fusion projects and founded the organization “SwarSetu” in memory of his grandfather, Ustad Aziz Khan, through which he guides students worldwide.
