Guruve Namah – Kathak Recital by Ragini Maharaj at Goodman Arts Centre

Guruve Namah is a solo Kathak recital by Ragini Maharaj, presented at the Goodman Arts Centre Black Box in Singapore on 21 March 2026. The performance is conceived as a tribute to the guru-shishya parampara, expressing reverence and gratitude to the guru who guides the disciple towards knowledge and artistic refinement. The recital is dedicated to the enduring legacy of the legendary Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj, whose influence continues to shape generations of dancers.

The presentation explores the traditional vocabulary of Paramparik Kathak Nritya, structured around Teentaal (16 beats), one of the foundational rhythmic cycles in Hindustani music and Kathak dance. Through this format, Ragini Maharaj reflects the training she has received under her gurus—Pandit Birju Maharaj, Vidushi Mamta Maharaj, and Pandit Deepak Maharaj—presenting elements of classical Kathak repertoire that highlight rhythm, expression, and narrative interpretation.

The recital will conclude with a Lakshan Geet from the album Mann Bheetar, curated by Rachna Sarang, composed by Rajeev Mahavir, written by Pandit Birju Maharaj, and choreographed by Mamta Maharaj. In addition to the solo performance, participants from an Advanced Level Workshop will present Nritya-Ras, featuring a Tarana and a Thumri, offering audiences a glimpse of Kathak training and ensemble presentation within the classical tradition
