Guided Walk: Annapurna Devi and the Legacy of Indian Instrumental Music | WHAM 2026

A special guided walk on the legacy of Annapurna Devi will be presented at the Indian Music Experience Museum (IME), Bengaluru, as part of the WHAM 2026 – Women’s History, Art and Music Festival. Scheduled for 21 March 2026, the session will take visitors through the museum’s gallery dedicated to some of India’s most influential instrumentalists, highlighting the life and contributions of the legendary surbahar maestro Annapurna Devi.

The guided walk explores the history and evolution of instrumental traditions in Indian classical music, focusing on musical lineages, mentorship, and the transmission of knowledge across generations. Annapurna Devi, known for her profound influence as a teacher and musician, played a pivotal role in shaping the artistic journeys of several prominent musicians while maintaining a largely private performing career.

Conducted at the Indian Music Experience Museum in JP Nagar, Bengaluru, the session will be held in English and Kannada between 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM. As part of the WHAM 2026 program, the event aims to encourage deeper engagement with the history of Indian classical instrumental music and reflect on the enduring impact of one of its most respected yet understated figures.
