About Indian Music Experience Museum
The Indian Music Experience Museum (IME) is located in JP Nagar 7th Phase, Bengaluru, Karnataka, within the Brigade Millennium complex. Spread across approximately 50,000 square feet over three floors, the venue serves as both a museum and a cultural performance space dedicated to Indian music. Its facilities include interactive exhibit galleries, a sound garden, music education spaces, and dedicated performance venues, making it one of India’s unique institutions focused entirely on music heritage.
The museum houses nine thematic exhibition galleries that explore different aspects of Indian music through instruments, archival material, and multimedia installations. Key sections include the Stars Gallery, which features memorabilia from legendary musicians such as Ustad Bismillah Khan and M. S. Subbulakshmi, and Living Traditions, which explains the concepts of ragas, talas, and gharanas in Indian classical music. The outdoor Sound Garden features interactive sound installations, including the Humming Stone, Singing Stone, and Storm Drum, allowing visitors to explore the science of sound through physical interaction.
As a venue, IME regularly hosts concerts, workshops, lectures, and community outreach programmes. Its performance spaces include a Performance Theatre (seating capacity 75), a Terrace Amphitheatre (capacity 100) for open-air performances, and a Seminar Hall (capacity 60) used for talks and rehearsals. The venue also includes a Learning Centre offering music classes in Carnatic vocal, Hindustani vocal, mridangam, and guitar, along with an alfresco café and gift shop, making it an active cultural hub for music education, exhibitions, and live performances in Bengaluru.
