Biography

Sandip Ghosh is a Hindustani classical tabla artist and teacher recognized for his sustained work as both a soloist and accompanist. His training began under Pt. Gobinda Bose and continued with advanced and long-term guidance from Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, under whom he studied for 18 years. This extended talim shaped a performance approach noted for balance between tradition, tonal clarity, and rhythmic imagination.

As a performer, Ghosh has appeared in concerts across India and internationally, including tours in the United States, Germany, France, Singapore, and Canada. He has been featured at major Indian classical music festivals, including the Dover Lane Music Conference, Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav, and Saptak Music Festival.

He is widely respected as an accompanist and has performed alongside senior artists including Ajoy Chakrabarty, Shahid Parvez, Shujaat Khan, and Hariprasad Chaurasia. His accompaniment is valued for sensitivity to raga presentation and strong laya support.

In addition to performing, Ghosh has been active in teaching. He is a former faculty member of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy and continues to teach within the guru–shishya framework. He also offers instruction through the online learning platform iPassio, reaching students beyond the traditional classroom setting.

His recognitions include being named a National Scholar, receiving a Gold Medal at the South Asian Universities Festival, and honors such as the President’s Award and Academy Puroskar. Together, his performance career and educational work position him as a contemporary representative of the tabla tradition.
