Biography

Rohit Mujumdar began his tabla training in childhood under Guru Shri Babanrao Bhaavsaar in Jalgaon. At the age of eleven, he entered the traditional gurukul system to study under Padma Shri Taalyogi Pandit Suresh Talwalkar, where he received intensive training in repertoire, technique, and accompaniment practice.

His professional work includes both concert performance and pedagogy. He teaches tabla through platforms such as ArtiGenius, where he has developed a structured beginner course titled Prarambh. He has also served as a visiting tutor at the New England School of Music in Massachusetts.

As a performer, Mujumdar has accompanied artists including Pta. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Pt. Sanjeev Abhyankar, and sitarist Shakir Khan. His appearances include projects such as Raagas on Tabla under the Idea Jalsa series, performances at Gangadhar Swarotsav 2026 in Pune alongside sarodist Pratik Shrivastav, and concerts at the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple in January 2026.

He has toured internationally, with performances in the United States and Singapore. Known for rhythmic clarity and sensitive interaction with melodic artists, Mujumdar’s work emphasizes dialogue between rhythm and raga within traditional concert formats. Based in Pune, he continues to combine performance, teaching, and digital outreach in his practice.
