Parween Sultana

Begum Parween Sultana is an eminent Hindustani classical singer whose music is rooted in the Patiala Gharana tradition. Born in Assam, she received early training from Acharya Chinmoy Lahiri and later advanced her musical education under Ustad Dilshad Khan. Known for her exceptional vocal range and clarity, she has been a prominent presence in Indian classical music concerts since the early 1960s.

Alongside classical performances, she has contributed to Indian cinema, lending her voice to notable films such as Pakeezah, Kudrat, Gadar, and Assamese films. Her recordings have been released by major labels including HMV, Polydor, and Magnasound. Frequently accompanied by Pandit Shrinivas Acharya on harmonium, she has received several prestigious awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Shri, and Padma Bhushan, recognizing her long-standing contribution to Indian classical music.
