Toronto is a major center for Indian classical music in North America. The city hosts annual festivals, workshops and performances featuring artists from both the Hindustani and Carnatic traditions. Venues such as the Aga Khan Museum, Roy Thomson Hall and local cultural organizations like the Toronto Tabla Ensemble and the Canadian Foundation for Asian Culture regularly present concerts by visiting and resident musicians.

Notable performances in Toronto include a 2015 jugalbandi concert by sitarist Shahid Parvez and sarod player Tejendra Majumdar at the Aga Khan Museum. The event featured raga Yaman and raga Mishra Pilu, accompanied by tabla artist Anubrata Chatterjee. The Toronto Tabla Ensemble, founded by tabla player Ritesh Das in 2008, releases fusion and traditional albums, including Rhythms of the Diaspora (2012), which blends North Indian percussion with global influences. Toronto’s recording activity includes studio albums and live releases. Tabla player Vineet Vyas recorded Toronto Taal (2017) at Revolution Recording, featuring compositions in teen taal and jhaptal. Vocalist Subhadra Desai released Swara Sadhana (2020), a collection of khayal and dhrupad pieces accompanied by harmonium and pakhawaj, under the independent label Raga Records. The exact scale of commercial releases remains undocumented, but archival recordings from the 1980s onward exist in private collections and institutional archives like the University of Toronto Music Library.

Collaborations between Toronto-based artists and international musicians occur frequently. In 2018, bansuri player Ronu Majumdar performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in a program combining raga-based improvisations with Western orchestration. The same year, veena artist Jayanthi Kumaresh conducted a workshop and concert at the Royal Conservatory of Music, introducing Carnatic techniques to local students.
