About Anoushka
Anoushka is the debut studio album by Indian sitarist Anoushka Shankar. Angel Records released the album on 20 October 1998. The album contains five instrumental tracks that feature Shankar performing classical raga compositions on the sitar.
Anoushka Shankar recorded the album at age 17 under the guidance of her father, sitar maestro Ravi Shankar. The album includes traditional ragas and one original composition. The tracklist consists of "Bairagi," "Tilak Shyam," "Kirwani," "Charukeshi," and "First Love (Pratham Prem)." "First Love (Pratham Prem)" is the only original piece on the album, composed by Anoushka Shankar.
The album showcases Shankar's technical proficiency and interpretive style in Hindustani classical music. "Bairagi" and "Tilak Shyam" are morning ragas, while "Kirwani" and "Charukeshi" are evening ragas. The album does not include vocal performances or additional instrumentalists beyond Shankar's sitar.
