About Anourag
Anourag is a studio album by Indian sitarist Anoushka Shankar. Angel Records released the album on August 15, 2000. The album contains six tracks of Hindustani classical music.
Anoushka Shankar performs sitar on all tracks. Tanmoy Bose accompanies her on tabla for the album. The compositions feature traditional ragas and include both solo and duet performances.
The tracklist consists of Shuddha Sarang, Puriya Dhanashri, Hamsadhwani Tabla Duet, Yaman Kalyan, Swarna Jayanti, and Pancham Se Gara. Shuddha Sarang presents a morning raga with a slow alap followed by a medium-tempo jor and jhala. Puriya Dhanashri explores a late-afternoon raga with intricate melodic development. Hamsadhwani Tabla Duet combines sitar and tabla in a rhythmic interplay based on the evening raga Hamsadhwani.
Yaman Kalyan features a popular evening raga with a structured progression from alap to gat. Swarna Jayanti is a composition in raga Yaman, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of India’s independence. Pancham Se Gara concludes the album with a fast-paced gat in raga Gara, incorporating elements of thumri.
