Symphony of Santoor is a large-format musical production conceptualized and led by Rahul Shivkumar Sharma, presenting the santoor in a symphonic setting rarely attempted at this scale. The project places one of India’s most revered classical instruments within a grand orchestral framework, combining Indian classical aesthetics with contemporary symphonic arrangements.
Rahul Shivkumar Sharma’s career includes collaborations with international artists such as Kenny G, Deep Forest, and Richard Clayderman, alongside a discography of over 75 albums. In this production, his santoor is positioned as the central voice within a large ensemble format.
The presentation features a 35-member international chamber orchestra, expanding the sonic range of the 100-stringed instrument and exploring intersections between Indian classical, Western classical, jazz, and familiar melodic themes from film music. The orchestra for the project is conducted by Samuel Tamarit Otero of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice.
Presented by Banyan Tree, the production is designed as a premium concert hall experience, with emphasis on scale, sound design, and curated repertoire. Banyan Tree has a track record of producing large-format music events across India, and this project is positioned among its most ambitious offerings.
