Rahul Sharma, born 1972 in Mumbai, is an Indian santoor player trained by his father, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. Performing since the 1990s, he plays classical, film, and cross-genre music globally.

Biography

Rahul Sharma belongs to a distinguished musical lineage and is widely recognized for his contributions to the santoor within Indian classical music. After early training on the harmonium, he pursued formal instruction on the santoor under Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, with whom he has also performed and recorded extensively. He studied at Mithibai College in Mumbai before establishing his independent performance career.

At the age of 22, Sharma was invited to perform at international festivals such as WOMAD and the Darbar Festival. Alongside classical performances, he has composed music for Indian films and television, including Mujhse Dosti Karoge! and the series Ramayug. His discography includes collaborations with artists such as Richard Clayderman, Kenny G, Deep Forest, Zakir Hussain, and others, with several albums achieving international chart recognition. In 2016, he received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, acknowledging his contribution to Indian classical music.
