Dhani Gundecha is a Dhrupad vocalist of the Dagar Gharana, trained under the Gundecha Brothers, known for performances, teaching, and promoting traditional Indian classical music.

Biography

Dhani Gundecha is a Dhrupad vocalist of the Dagar Gharana and a prominent young practitioner of Indian classical music. Trained at the Gundecha Brothers’(Ramakant Gundecha -Umakant Gundecha) gurukul in Bhopal, she represents a lineage-based approach to Dhrupad, focusing on voice culture, tonal clarity, and the meditative depth of the tradition. Her musical grounding reflects rigorous training and a strong emphasis on traditional aesthetics.

She has performed at major music festivals and platforms across India and internationally, including appearances at established classical music events and national broadcast programmes. Alongside her brother Anant Gundecha, she contributes to contemporary presentations of Dhrupad, including thematic works such as “Abhang in Dhrupad,” while maintaining the structural integrity of the form.

In addition to performing, Dhani Gundecha is actively involved in teaching at the Dhrupad Sansthan in Bhopal, where she conducts workshops and residential training sessions. A recipient of national scholarships from the Ministry of Culture, her work focuses on the preservation, transmission, and wider dissemination of the Dhrupad tradition among new generations of learners.
