Anant Gundecha

Anant Gundecha is a Hindustani classical vocalist specializing in Dhrupad, one of the oldest surviving forms of Indian art music. He belongs to the Dagar vani tradition and received intensive training under the celebrated Gundecha Brothers, Pandit Umakant Gundecha and the late Pandit Ramakant Gundecha, who established a globally respected gurukul system for Dhrupad education. Following the passing of Ramakant Gundecha in 2019, Anant began performing alongside Pandit Umakant Gundecha as part of the continuing Gundecha musical lineage, further strengthening his grounding in the tradition.

Anant Gundecha has been practicing Dhrupad for nearly a decade and has received scholarships and awards that support young artists in Indian classical music. His performances are known for clear voice control, strong tonal clarity, and a disciplined approach that stays true to the Dhrupad tradition. He presents alap and improvisation in a balanced and structured manner, shaped by years of focused training.

Along with performing, Anant Gundecha is actively involved in music education. He conducts workshops such as Discover Your Voice—A Dhrupad Immersion, which are open to both trained musicians and people without any formal musical background. These workshops focus on listening, basic voice development, and an introduction to the Dhrupad style through simple and practical methods based on the guru–shishya tradition.

He also speaks about the need for regular performance platforms and institutional support to help Indian classical music reach wider audiences. For Anant Gundecha, Dhrupad is a serious and long-term musical practice developed through learning and performance.
