About Cambridge University Indian Classical Music Society
The Cambridge University Indian Classical Music Society (CU ICM) is a cultural and educational organisation that brings together students, musicians, and enthusiasts interested in Indian classical music. The society promotes both Hindustani and Carnatic traditions through concerts, lecture-demonstrations, artist residencies, masterclasses, workshops, and collaborative performances. Throughout the academic year, CU ICM organises themed productions, informal jam sessions, and large-scale concerts featuring student performers and internationally recognised artists. By creating opportunities for learning, performance, and cultural exchange, the society contributes to the appreciation and continued growth of Indian classical music within the University of Cambridge and the wider community.
History
Founded to foster awareness and participation in Indian classical music at the University of Cambridge, CU ICM has developed into one of the leading student-led platforms for South Asian performing arts in the United Kingdom. The society was established to create opportunities for musicians and audiences to engage with the rich traditions of Hindustani and Carnatic music through performances, workshops, and educational programs.
