Raga Mohanam/Bhoopali - Drut gat in Aditaal
About Raga Mohanam/Bhoopali - Drut gat in Aditaal
Murali Prasādam (Raga Mohanam / Bhoopali) is a collaborative studio album featuring Carnatic vocalist M. Balamuralikrishna and Hindustani flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia. The label Navras Records released the album on CD in May 1995.
The album centers on improvisations in Raga Mohanam (known as Raga Bhoopali in Hindustani classical tradition). The fifth track, titled Raga Mohanam/Bhoopali - Drut gat in Aditaal, spans 12 minutes and 11 seconds. The composition showcases a fast-paced (drut) exploration of the raga set to the 16-beat Aditaal rhythmic cycle. Balamuralikrishna and Chaurasia alternate melodic phrases, blending Carnatic and Hindustani interpretive styles.
No additional details about the recording sessions, accompanying artists, or alternate editions are publicly documented. The album remains a noted example of cross-tradition collaboration in Indian classical music from the 1990s.
