Biography
Vivek Pandya is an American-born Indian classical tabla player associated with the Farrukhabad Gharana, recognized for his technical precision and evolving contemporary approach within the Hindustani music tradition. Initiated into music at an early age, he trained under Pt. Anindo Chatterjee and also received extensive guidance from Pt. Nayan Ghosh is shaping a strong foundation in traditional tabla repertoire.
His playing style is noted for speed, tonal clarity, and distinct techniques such as “one-finger teentaal” and advanced hand movements like “dhir dhir” executed with palm control. He made his early debut at the age of nine and has since performed in solo and collaborative settings, engaging with both classical and cross-genre projects.
Pandya has collaborated with artists across traditions, including projects with cellist Inbal Segev and santoor player Vinay Desai, as well as performances with sarangi maestro Sabir Khan. Alongside his performance career, he is also engaged in academic pursuits and leads initiatives such as NEXUS, reflecting a balance between traditional training and contemporary musical exploration.
