Vinay Desai

Vinay is an Indian classical santoor player shaped by the tradition of the late Padma Vibhushan Pt. ShivKumar Sharma. His training began under Takahiro Arai and later continued with Kunal Gunjal, eventually leading him to receive direct guidance from Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, during the maestro’s later years, grounded his style in the established santoor lineage.

His musical approach reflects a balance of meditative depth and dynamic expression, drawing from the stylistic nuances associated with his guru. With a focus on tonal clarity and raga development, his performances aim to preserve the aesthetic and structural integrity of the santoor tradition while presenting it in contemporary concert settings.

Vinay has performed across India and internationally, including in Argentina, Canada, the Bahamas, and the United States. His work is positioned within the ongoing effort to sustain and carry forward the musical legacy of Pt.
