Biography
Trivandrum V. Balaji is an Indian Carnatic mridangam artist recognised for his mastery of rhythm and distinguished contributions to Carnatic percussion. Born into a musical family, he received training under Kodivayal Venkatrama Iyer, B. Doraiswamy, K. Krishna Iyengar, R. Vaidyanathan, and the legendary Palghat R. Raghu. As a concert accompanist and solo performer, he has appeared alongside leading Carnatic vocalists and instrumentalists at major music festivals and sabhas across India and internationally. A recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2009) from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, he has also been honoured by institutions including the Music Academy, Krishna Gana Sabha, Chembai Trust, and the Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Award, while continuing to mentor the next generation of percussionists through workshops and training.
