Trichy Krishnaswamy is an Indian Carnatic percussionist known for his mastery of the ghatam and mridangam. An “A” grade All India Radio artist, he has accompanied leading Carnatic musicians worldwide.

Biography

Trichy Krishnaswamy is a Carnatic percussion artist recognized for his performances on the ghatam, the traditional clay pot percussion instrument of South Indian classical music, and the mridangam. He began his training in percussion at the age of ten under Thanjai Sri V. Srinivasan and later studied with the mridangam vidwan Sri B. Harikumar. Over the years, he developed a reputation for precise rhythmic accompaniment and sensitivity to the dynamics of Carnatic ensemble performance.

As a performer, Trichy Krishnaswamy has accompanied several leading vocalists and instrumentalists in the Carnatic music tradition. His collaborations include concerts with prominent musicians such as T. V. Sankaranarayanan, Sudha Ragunathan, Nithyasree Mahadevan, T. M. Krishna, and Abhishek Raghuram, as well as instrumentalists including Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh, Ganesh & Kumaresh, and Sampagodu S. Vighnaraja. His performances have been presented at major sabhas, festivals, and concert venues across India and internationally.

Trichy Krishnaswamy is recognized as an “A” Grade artist of All India Radio and has received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in recognition of his contributions to classical percussion. In addition to concert performances, he has participated in collaborative recordings such as the album Aditya (Ragapravaham) alongside Ganesh & Kumaresh and Patri Satish Kumar, continuing to contribute to both traditional and contemporary presentations of Carnatic rhythm.
