Biography

Soumen Nandy is a tabla musician from West Bengal who received his formal training under Pandit Pankaj Chatterjee, a senior representative of the Farukhabad gharana. His grounding in this tradition shaped his approach to accompaniment and solo playing within the Hindustani classical framework. Based in Kolkata, he has become a familiar name on the city’s classical music circuit and performs regularly at established concert platforms.

In recent years, Soumen Nandy has worked in close association with Imdadkhani sitar exponent Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee. This collaboration has featured in several concerts and has formed a significant part of his professional journey.

Soumen Nandy has performed at the Darbar Festival on three occasions—in 2013, 2017, and 2019. During these appearances, he accompanied senior musicians such as Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee and Sabir Sultan Khan. These performances introduced his work to international audiences and placed him among artists representing contemporary Indian classical practice on global stages.

Through training, regular performance, and long-term collaborations, Soumen Nandy continues to contribute to the tradition of tabla accompaniment within Hindustani classical music.
