Pandit Shankar Ghosh (1935–2016) was a tabla artist of the Farukhabad gharana, known for solo performance, accompaniment, compositions, and collaborations with leading Hindustani musicians.

Biography

Pandit Shankar Ghosh (10 October 1935 – 22 January 2016) was an Indian tabla artist associated with the Farukhabad gharana. He trained under Jnan Prakash Ghosh in Kolkata and developed a performance approach that included both solo repertoire and accompaniment.

He performed with leading Hindustani musicians, including Ali Akbar Khan, Ravi Shankar, Vilayat Khan, and Nikhil Banerjee, as well as vocalists such as Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Girija Devi. His work extended to international tours and collaborations.

He contributed to the development of tabla compositions and ensemble formats, including the presentation of large percussion ensembles. He was also active as a teacher in India and abroad.

He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1999–2000) for his contributions to Indian classical music.
