Biography
Pandit Rajnish Mishra is a distinguished Hindustani classical vocalist of the Banaras gharana, recognized for his contributions to khayal singing and duet performances alongside his brother, Pt. Ritesh Mishra. Born into a lineage spanning over three centuries, he represents the musical heritage of the Rajan–Sajan Mishra family, maintaining the stylistic depth of the Purab ang tradition.
His early training began under his grandfather, Pt. Hanuman Prasad Mishra, and Pt. Gopal Mishra, followed by advanced tutelage under his father, Pt. Rajan Mishra, and uncle, Pt. Sajan Mishra. His repertoire includes khayal, tappa, and tarana, characterized by melodic clarity, intricate improvisation, and adherence to traditional raga structures.
Pandit Rajnish Mishra has performed at major international venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and Lincoln Center, as well as leading Indian festivals including Saptak and Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan. An ‘A’ grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, he has also contributed to globally recognized projects such as the Grammy-nominated album Rise, while continuing to conduct workshops and lecture-demonstrations worldwide.
