Biography

R. N. Prakash is a South Indian percussionist known for his work on the ghatam, khanjira, and mridangam. He began learning percussion at the age of six in Bengaluru under the guidance of K. N. Krishna Murthy, developing a strong foundation in Carnatic rhythm.

He later specialized in ghatam and started performing across India from a young age. At 17, he moved to England, where he established his career in the UK and Europe as a percussionist in both Carnatic classical and fusion ensembles.

Alongside performance, Prakash is active as an educator. He has mentored students from varied backgrounds in multiple countries and is particularly known for conducting percussion workshops for children in schools. He serves as a faculty member at the London School of Carnatic Music, contributing to structured Carnatic music education in the UK.

He has performed multiple times at the Darbar Festival (2008, 2009, 2013, and 2021), presenting ghatam accompaniment in concerts with artists such as Jayanthi Kumaresh, Neyveli Venkatesh, S. Varadharajan, Jyotsna Srikanth, and the violin duo Ganesh Kumaresh. His work is associated with rhythmic clarity and supportive accompaniment within ensemble settings.

His career continues to combine concert performance, teaching, and outreach, supporting the spread of Carnatic percussion traditions internationally.
