Neyveli B. Venkatesh represents a generation of mridangam artists who combine traditional discipline with an adaptable concert presence. His early training from his father, A. S. Balaramanan, established a rigorous rhythmic base, which was expanded through guidance from P. P. Venkatesan and M. N. Kandaswamy Pillai. Known for clarity, balance, and an ability to engage musically with both vocalists and instrumentalists, Venkatesh has secured frequent appearances on leading Carnatic stages. His repeated performances at the Darbar Festival between 2007 and 2010 brought his artistry to wider international audiences, where he collaborated with Mysore A.
