Muslim Shaggan

Muslim Shaggan is a classical vocalist from Lahore and a continuing representative of the Gwalior gharana, one of the oldest and most respected traditions of Hindustani khayal music. He began learning music at the age of seven from his grandfather and guru, Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shaggan, a celebrated artist of Pakistan who helped shape the understanding of the Gwalior style on national and international stages.

He belongs to a musical tradition linked with early pioneers of North Indian classical music, including Bhai Mardana, Swami Haridas, and Mian Tansen. The style focuses on presenting the raga with clarity and depth, keeping the music expressive but refined.

Today, Muslim performs at cultural festivals, classical concerts, and broadcast platforms across Pakistan. His music encompasses khayal as its primary form, along with ghazal, characterized by poetic emotion; thumri, renowned for its expressive storytelling; and kafi, a devotional style rooted in Sufi poetry. He accompanies himself on the harmonium, giving his performances a familiar and contemporary sound while staying true to tradition.

Muslim aims to keep the values of his gharana alive while sharing classical music with new listeners and modern spaces. With his growing presence, he is recognized as a promising artist contributing to the future of the Gwalior gharana and the rich classical music of Pakistan.
