Biography
Farooque Latif Khan is a distinguished Hindustani classical sarangi artist known for his expressive bowing technique and deep command of raga interpretation. Born into a renowned musical family from Gohad near Gwalior, he represents the fifth generation of sarangi musicians. He received rigorous training under his father and guru, Abdul Latif Khan, beginning his musical journey at a young age and inheriting a rich tradition of sarangi performance.
Over the years, Farooque Latif Khan has developed a reputation for combining the traditional sarangi idiom with contemporary and collaborative musical formats. As a top-grade artist of All India Radio and a staff artist at its Mumbai station, he has performed widely at major classical music festivals and cultural events across India and internationally, including tours in France, South Africa, Dubai, and Sri Lanka. His performances frequently include accompaniment for leading vocalists and classical dancers.
In addition to concert performances, Khan has contributed to recordings and broadcast projects that promote the sarangi tradition. His work appears in albums such as Youngster, and he has also hosted the radio series “Sarangi Ki Swar Yatra” on AIR Raagam, exploring the musical heritage of the instrument. Through performances, collaborations, and educational initiatives, Farooque Latif Khan continues to uphold and expand the legacy of the sarangi within the global landscape of Indian classical music.
