Biography

Balu Raguraman is a Carnatic violinist and teacher currently based in the UK. He is a Fellow of Trinity College London and has been active as a performer and educator for several decades.

He serves as the resident violin teacher at The Bhavan in London, where he has completed over 25 years of teaching, contributing significantly to the training of students in Carnatic violin. In addition to institutional teaching, he conducts private lessons and mentors students across different levels.

As a performer, he has appeared in concerts in India and internationally, accompanying and collaborating with leading Carnatic musicians such as M. Balamuralikrishna, N. Ramani, and U. Srinivas (Mandolin Srinivas). His concert work reflects adaptability across solo and accompaniment settings.

He has been conferred the A-TOP grade by All India Radio, a distinction rarely awarded to Non-Resident Indian musicians. Alongside performance, his work focuses on nurturing Carnatic music education and sustaining the tradition among students in Europe.
