Alla Rakha Kalawant is a Kolkata-based sarangi artist from a musical lineage, known for raga depth, solo and accompaniment work, and performances in India and Europe.

Biography

Alla Rakha Kalawant is an Indian classical sarangi player from a hereditary family of musicians. He received his early training from his grandfather, Ustad Imamuddin Khan, and later studied at the Saptak School of Music under Smt. Manju Mehta. His training reflects a strong grounding in raga grammar and traditional aesthetics.

Based in Kolkata, he has been associated with major classical platforms and has served as a faculty member at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy. As a performer, he presents both solo recitals and collaborative concerts and has also participated in fusion projects.

He has accompanied leading artists such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Rashid Khan, and Pandit Ajay Chakrabarty. His career includes appearances at important festivals like Saptak, as well as concerts in India and Europe. His playing is noted for discipline, tonal control, and a deep understanding of raga expression on the sarangi.
