Akhilesh Gundecha

Akhilesh Gundecha is an accomplished pakhawaj artist whose formal musical training began under the mentorship of Pandit Shrikant Mishra and Raja Chhatrapati Singh Ju Deo. This early guidance shaped his rhythmic discipline, tonal clarity, and understanding of traditional percussion aesthetics. In addition to his artistic pursuits, he pursued higher education, earning postgraduate qualifications in music and completing a law degree, demonstrating a strong academic orientation alongside his musical career.

His artistic merit has been acknowledged by leading cultural institutions through scholarships awarded by the Ustad Allauddin Khan Sangeet Academy in Bhopal and the Government of India. As a performer, Akhilesh Gundecha has accompanied eminent Dhrupad vocalists, including Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar, Ustad Fahimuddin Dagar, and Pandit Siyaram Tiwari, contributing sensitively to the Dhrupad tradition as a pakhawaj accompanist. He has also presented solo pakhawaj recitals at prominent festivals such as the Tansen Festival in Gwalior and the Dhrupad Samaroh in Bhopal.

His performance career extends internationally, with concerts across the United States, Europe, Japan, and Australia. Expanding his creative scope, he founded Madhya Laya, a percussion ensemble that explores rhythmic expression through innovative presentation and has received appreciation in India and overseas. Through sustained performance, collaboration, and ensemble leadership, Akhilesh Gundecha continues to contribute meaningfully to the global presence of Indian classical percussion.
