Aditya Kalyanpur

Aditya Kalyanpur (born 21 July 1978) is an Indian tabla maestro associated with the Punjab gharana. Born in Mumbai, he began studying tabla at the age of five under the guidance of the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha Khan and later continued advanced training with Ustad Zakir Hussain. Recognized early as a child prodigy, Aditya Kalyanpur drew attention for his rhythmic command and tonal clarity from a young age, including a widely noted appearance alongside his guru in the Wah Taj! commercial at age eleven.

Aditya Kalyanpur’s playing is characterized by bold, articulate execution of bols, precise laya control, and a large repertoire of traditional compositions and improvisational techniques. Over the years, he has accompanied major Hindustani classical musicians such as Shivkumar Sharma, Amjad Ali Khan, Prabha Atre, N. Rajam, Sultan Khan, Shahid Parvez, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Shujaat Khan, and others, while also collaborating with Carnatic artists including T. N. Krishnan and U. Shrinivas.

Beyond the classical stage, Aditya Kalyanpur has engaged with global and contemporary music contexts, touring internationally and collaborating across genres. His work includes associations with large-scale world tours and recordings with international artists, demonstrating adaptability beyond conventional concert formats. A Top Grade artist of All India Radio and recipient of multiple honours and scholarships, Aditya Kalyanpur continues to be recognised for combining rigorous traditional training with openness to new musical dialogues.
