About Narada Gana Sabha
Narada Gana Sabha was established on 9 February 1958 in Mylapore, Chennai, to create a dedicated space for music, dance, and drama. In its early years, the Sabha functioned from V. M. Street in Mylapore and later moved its activities to the Music Academy Hall, allowing it to reach a wider audience. In 1972, the organization took a significant step by acquiring land on T. T. K. Road, where it eventually built its own permanent auditorium, inaugurated in February 1988.
Since then, Narada Gana Sabha has grown into one of the foremost music associations in Chennai. It plays an active role during the annual Chennai Music Season, regularly organizing Carnatic music concerts, Bharatanatyam and other classical dance performances, as well as drama productions. Alongside its participation in the larger seasonal calendar, the Sabha also curates its own annual festival, adding depth and continuity to its cultural offerings.
Over the decades, the venue has hosted generations of artists, from celebrated masters to promising young performers. Its programming reflects a balance between tradition and continuity, making it a reliable platform for serious listeners and practitioners of Indian classical arts. Today, Narada Gana Sabha stands not just as an auditorium but as a living institution that continues to shape Chennai’s identity as a global center for classical music and performance.
