About Vasantotsav
Vasantotsav is a multidisciplinary cultural organisation that promotes Indian classical music, theatre, devotional traditions, and the performing arts through year-round initiatives. The organisation works with established maestros, emerging performers, scholars, and cultural practitioners to create meaningful artistic experiences for diverse audiences. Its activities extend beyond festival programming and include artist support, cultural outreach, educational engagement, heritage preservation, and the presentation of curated productions. Through initiatives such as Abhangawari and Natyasangitachi Vaatchal, Vasantotsav seeks to strengthen connections between traditional art forms and contemporary audiences while encouraging wider appreciation of India's musical and cultural traditions.
History
The roots of Vasantotsav lie in the Vasantrao Deshpande Pratishthan, established in 1984 to honour Pt. Vasantrao Deshpande. Following years of organising the Vasantrao Deshpande Sangeet Samaroh, Rahul Deshpande launched Vasantotsav in Pune in 2007. The festival gradually expanded from a classical music gathering into a multidisciplinary cultural platform.
