The Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts (SaMaPa) is a leading Indian classical music institution founded by Santoor maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori and currently guided by Pandit Abhay Rustum Sopori. Dedicated to the vision of “Jan Jan Tak Sangeet,” the organisation promotes Indian classical music through education, performances, cultural outreach, artist development, and heritage preservation. SaMaPa supports the Santoor tradition, revives rare musical instruments, organises major festivals such as SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan and World Santoor Day, and conducts social initiatives that use music as a tool for learning, healing, and community engagement.
History
Founded by the late Pandit Bhajan Sopori, SaMaPa was established with the vision of taking Indian classical music beyond traditional concert spaces and making it accessible to people from all walks of life. Guided by the motto “Jan Jan Tak Sangeet,” the organisation has developed into a respected platform for musicians, students, and cultural practitioners.
