ITC Sangeet Research Academy (ITC SRA), established in 1977, is one of India’s leading institutions dedicated to Hindustani classical music education, research, and archival preservation. Located in Kolkata and supported by ITC Limited, the academy was founded to sustain and promote the Guru-Shishya Parampara through a structured, residential training system.

The academy emerged from ITC’s earlier initiative, the ITC Sangeet Sammelan (1971), which brought together leading musicians and catalyzed institutional support for classical music. Over the years, ITC SRA has been associated with eminent gurus such as Nissar Hussain Khan, Hirabai Barodekar, Girija Devi, and Latafat Hussain Khan, representing diverse gharanas including Gwalior, Kirana, Agra, and Jaipur-Atrauli traditions. Instrumental training was formally introduced in 2002, expanding its pedagogical scope.

Today, the academy functions as a public charitable trust, combining traditional teaching methods with modern research approaches to document and preserve classical music. It continues to nurture prominent artists and scholars, including alumni like Rashid Khan and Kaushiki Chakraborty.
