Sarod

Sarod is a collaborative studio album by Indian classical musicians Amjad Ali Khan and Zakir Hussain. The duo recorded the album in 1991 and released it the same year under the label Moment! Records. The work features Khan on sarod and Hussain on tabla, showcasing a fusion of North Indian classical traditions with improvisational interplay.

The album comprises two extended tracks. The first track combines Rags Pilu and Kirwani, exploring melodic variations within the raga framework. The second track presents a medley of Rag Khammaj, a segment of Ragmala (a garland of ragas), and a folk-inspired Dhun. Both compositions emphasize spontaneous interaction between the sarod and tabla, with Khan’s intricate melodic phrasing complemented by Hussain’s rhythmic elaborations.
