About The Master
The Master is a collaborative studio album by American guitarist and composer Warren Cuccurullo and Indian classical musician Sultan Khan. The album blends elements of Hindustani classical music with Western fusion and ambient textures. Six Degrees Records released the work on July 22, 2014, in CD format.
Cuccurullo and Khan co-composed the album’s seven tracks. Cuccurullo contributed electric and acoustic guitar arrangements, synthesizers, and production oversight. Khan performed on sarangi, a bowed string instrument central to North Indian classical traditions, and provided vocal passages in select compositions. The recording sessions integrated live improvisation with structured compositions, reflecting both artists’ backgrounds in experimental and traditional frameworks.
The tracklist includes The Holy Man’s Plea, an opening piece featuring Khan’s sarangi melodies over layered electronic textures. 4D Suite incorporates rhythmic cycles adapted from Hindustani taal systems, paired with Cuccurullo’s processed guitar loops. Mirror Margana explores raga-inspired phrasing, while Sikar emphasizes percussive interplay and modal harmonies. The Lost Master serves as the album’s longest track, exceeding ten minutes in duration and combining ambient soundscapes with Khan’s extended sarangi improvisations. Octavia introduces harmonic distortions and rhythmic shifts, and You Can’t Tell concludes the album with a fusion of spoken-word elements and instrumental layers.
