Indian Delta

Indian Delta is a collaborative studio album by Indian classical musicians Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Sandeep Das. The album features a fusion of Mohan Veena and tabla, blending North Indian classical traditions with improvisational elements. Sense World Music released the recording on CD in 2002.

Bhatt performs on the Mohan Veena, a modified archlute he developed to expand the expressive range of Hindustani instrumental music. Das accompanies on the tabla, employing intricate rhythmic patterns and dynamic phrasing. The album captures live studio takes without overdubs, emphasizing spontaneous interaction between the artists.

The release contains three tracks. Bhatt opens with Raag Puriya Dhanashri (alap), a slow, meditative exploration of the raga’s melodic contours. The subsequent two compositions focus on Raga Shyam Kalyan, first in a tintaal slow tempo and then in a faster tintaal rendition. The performances adhere to the structural conventions of Hindustani classical music while incorporating individual stylistic innovations.

Sense World Music produced the album as part of its series on global fusion and traditional music. The recording session occurred in 2002, with the physical CD release following the same year.
