About Sunset In Dharwad
Sunset In Dharwad is a 2011 studio album by Hindustani classical vocalist Jayateerth Mevundi. The release features a selection of khayal, tarana, natya sangeet and bhajan compositions rooted in the Kirana gharana tradition. Mevundi produced the album under an independent or private label with no widely documented commercial distributor.
The album comprises five tracks that showcase Mevundi’s interpretations of raga-based bandishes and semi-classical forms. The opening track Kedar- Chaartal Ki Sawari presents a vilambit-khayal in Raga Kedar set to the 11-beat chaartal cycle. Ban Than Kaha follows with a drut composition in an unspecified raga, while Sawan Ki Bundaniya adopts a lighter, monsoon-themed semi-classical style. The fourth track Adana - Mundari Mori Ka (Addha Teental) explores Raga Adana in the 16-beat teental variant known as addha teental. The album concludes with Chandrakauns - Tarana, a rhythmic syllabic piece in Raga Chandrakauns, and Natya Sangeet-Sur Sukha Khani, a Marathi stage-music excerpt, followed by the bhajan Thumaka Thumaka.
The recording emphasizes Mevundi’s vocal technique and the accompaniment of traditional instruments, though specific contributing artists for tabla, harmonium or tanpura remain undocumented in available sources. The title Sunset In Dharwad references Mevundi’s hometown in Karnataka, a region historically linked to the development of Hindustani classical music. Release details beyond the year 2011 and tracklist are limited, with no confirmed information on physical formats, digital reissues or chart performance.
