Wamanrao Sadolikar

Pandit Wamanrao Sadolikar (1907–1991) was a distinguished Hindustani classical vocalist associated with the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. Known for his command over complex raga structures, he specialized in khayal singing and contributed significantly to preserving the stylistic depth of his gharana.

He received his early training under Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar and later trained under Ustad Bhurji Khan and Ustad Alladiya Khan, the founder of the Jaipur-Atrauli tradition. In addition to classical performance, he was active in Marathi Natya Sangeet as a singer-actor, music director, and stage director, bridging classical and theatrical traditions.

Sadolikar also made notable contributions as a teacher, mentoring musicians including Madhukar Sadolikar and Shruti Sadolikar-Katkar. His recognitions include the Sangeet Praveen title, ITC SRA Fellowship, and Balgandharv Suvarna Padak, reflecting his role in Hindustani music and theater history.
